As the lead GP30 passes by, we wave at a Cleveland bound Nickel Plate Road piggyback train making its way out of Chicago.  Nickel Plate Road was an early pioneer in intermodal service, with its slogan "High Speed Service." Today's train carries a block of Midwest piggyback from the Chicago Great Western, as well as Santa Fe trailers making their way onto the Nickel Plate from the West Coast. Nickel Plate Road is part of today's Norfolk Southern

A Rock Island Freight Train behind an SD40-2 and a GP7 heads from Fort Worth to Kansas City.  Today's train carries carloads of overalls from Williamson-Dickie, based out of Fort Worth.

The Rio Grande Salt Lake City to Denver Portion of the Original California Zephyr

A Penn Central SD45 and SD40 lead a general merchandise train towards Pittsburgh from Chicago.  Today's train carries cars interchanged from Burlington Northern and Soo Line connecting from Minneapolis and points west.  

Here we see the Denver to Salt Lake City portion of the California Zephyr, operated by the Rio Grande.  The California Zephyr was operated by Chicago Burlington & Quincy, Rio Grande and Western Pacific and was the Ancestor to Today's Amtrak Chicago to San Franciso Bay Area train.
